It cites the author and the title (usually in the first sentence); it contains the essay’s thesis and supporting ideas; it may use direct quotation of forceful or concise statements of the author’s ideas; it should have no opinions – only include information that is in original text. Basically it will take all the main ideas and put them into a shorter version of original essay. I use this in my work. Under certain circumstances I may need to write a report. I need to be clear and precise, not tell a story. If I am not careful I give too much detail that is not needed. A response is an assessment of the author’s essay. This is where you give your opinion of the article being summarized. It usually comes at the end of your paper. However, your response in the conclusion will be more direct and specific. It will examine ideas that you agree or disagree with, and feel that there is a more important or different point which needs to be discussed in addition to what is in the article. A good response is persuasive; therefore, it should cite facts, examples, and personal experience that either refutes or supports the article you’re responding to, depending on your stance. I dont need to respond very often. Its very unusually that it happens. Most my partners are law enforcement and write wonderful reports. But there have been a few times where I needed to add onto or correct someones report.
